This was our biggest year in AFS history in terms of field work accomplished by staff, volunteers, contractors, and other collaborators. We spent the majority of the season, from May to November traveling between multiple giant sequoia groves throughout the Sierra Nevada mountain range. We initiated two new research projects, collected cones for seeds from six unique groves, completed a spring and fall rounds of bark beetle surveys in five unique groves, and installed solar-powered canopy and soil sensors in 16 new trees, among other accomplishments. The support from numerous partners and funders, combined with our expert contractors and volunteers from all over the world come to camp, hike, climb and work long days to accomplish these goals. It’s not an easy task but it is integral to the value and impact of our mission and we could not do it alone. The Ancient Forest Society wants thank all of you who attended, supported and donated towards our goals to continue on our mission.
